Wastewater Service

Charleston Water System has 45,000 sewer accounts serving Charleston, West Ashley, Daniel Island, and parts of James Island. We also accept wastewater from Folly Beach, Hollywood, Meggett, and the James Island Public Service District, but we do not own or operate the sewer system in these areas.

Charleston Water System operates two wastewater treatment plants: the Plum Island treatment plant, which has a permitted capacity of 36 million gallons per day (mgd), and the Daniel Island treatment plant, which can treat up to 750,000 gallons/day.
