(October 29, 2009)—Charleston Water System's Board of Commissioners today approved an average 5% rate increase for the utility's water and sewer customers, effective January 1, 2010.
The increase was approved as part of Charleston Water System's 2010 Budget, which includes an overall reduction in budgeted expenses from 2009 and eliminates twenty vacant positions.
For residential customers who live in the City of Charleston, the rate increases amount to an additional $1.50 on the combined monthly water and sewer bill. Residential water customers who live outside of the city limits will see an increase of up to $1.55 on their monthly water bill.
