(October 27, 2011)—Charleston Water System has received South Carolina’s top honor for quality, the 2011 SC Governor’s Quality Award.
Charleston Water System CEO Kin Hill, P.E., accepted the award during the SC Quality Forum’s annual conference at the Columbia Convention Center on October 26th.
“We’re honored to receive this award,” said Kin Hill, “We started implementing the Baldrige Criteria in 2007 as part of our strategic plan, and over the last several years, we’ve seen results in improved performance, including a Triple-A bond rating, increased customer and associate satisfaction, and improved operational efficiency. This has been an incredible journey for our associates, and it has helped us to better serve our customers.”
Charleston Water’s Assistant Director of Human Resources, Jim Meeks, SPHR, was also recognized at the conference with the 2011 Champion of Excellence Award for his role in Charleston Water’s quality journey.
The Governor’s Quality Award program recognizes organizations that achieve excellent performance in developing, implementing and deploying a quality management system based on the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.
The program is administered by the SC Quality Forum, an affiliate of the SC Chamber of Commerce that recognizes and encourages improvements in quality and productivity by organizations throughout the state. The Governor’s Quality Award is based on the national Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program.
To be considered for the award, Charleston Water System submitted an application describing its quality management system and performance results. A team of examiners from the SC Quality Forum reviewed the application and visited Charleston Water System in July to verify its quality processes and results. Based on the application and site visit, Charleston Water system was selected as the 2011 SC Governor’s Quality Award winner.
Charleston Water System was also recently named one of the 2011 Best Places to Work by the SC Chamber of Commerce.
