Annual leave is accrued weekly, and increases in five-year intervals of service. Associates must use one-half of annual leave accrual each year.

Health and Dental Insurance
Charleston Water System offers three health insurance plans for all active associates, their spouses and/or dependents, retirees, and COBRA participants. Weekly premiums range from $5.77 for a single associate to $46.34 for full family coverage.
Prescription Drug Coverage
Prescription drug coverage is included in Charleston Water System's health insurance plans. The Premium Plan offers a co-pay for brand-name and generic drugs; the Base Plan includes prescription drug coverage only after the deductible is met.
Charleston Water System is a member of the South Carolina State Retirement System. Associates receive retirement benefits after 28 years of service or upon reaching age 65 with at least 5 years of service.
SC Deferred Compensation Program
Associates have the option of contributing to a 401K Plan and/or 457 Plan. Charleston Water System does not match an associate's contributions to these plans.
Sick leave is accrued weekly.
Long Term Disability
Associates who are ill or injured may be eligible for Long Term Disability after being out of work for 90 days. This benefit pays 60% of an associate's gross salary and is non-taxable.
For active associates, life insurance benefits are equal to an associate's annual salary. Upon retirement from Charleston Water System, the amount is reduced.
