Closing an Account
To close your Charleston Water System account, please call our Customer Service Department at (843) 727-6800. Please note we will need at least one day's notice along with a forwarding address and phone number for your final bill.
Charleston Water System offers temporary disconnection of service for up to six months at a time. You will not receive a bill during the disconnection period, but Charleston Water will apply a charge to your account for this service. All outstanding account balances must be paid before this service is granted.
It is the customer's responsibility to call and request that service be restored. If we do not receive notice to reactivate the account, the service will be terminated and the account closed. Origination fees will apply to establish a new account.
If the water meter shows any amount of consumption or activity during this period, the account will be reactivated and you will be charged for the water used.

Closing a Commercial Account with a Fire Service
Commercial accounts that have a serparate fire service line must provide written authorization from the property owner, insurer, and fire marshall before Charleston Water System will close the account. Click here to download the authorization form (Adobe PDF fillable form).
This policy is intended to protect the property in the event of a fire, and to protect Charleston Water System from liability. If written authorization is not provided, we will continue to bill the account until a new party requests water service at the location.
