We're proud to be a Best Place to Work in SC For Ninth Consecutive Year

Charleston Water System has ranked as one of the Best Places to Work in South Carolina in the large employer category for the ninth consecutive year in a program offered by SC Biz News, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Best Companies Group. CWS is the only governmental entity in South Carolina to be recognized in the large employer category in this program’s history through 2018. The full list of 2019 awards and final rankings will be revealed August 1 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

“This program is one of the key drivers of change within our organization,” said Kin Hill, CEO at CWS. “The feedback we receive from our employees is invaluable and we’re glad to invest in our staff because they’re our most valuable asset.”

CWS offers a robust benefits package including health and dental coverage, generous vacation time and sick leave, short and long-term disability coverage, an optional vision plan, pre-tax medical and child care flex spending accounts, and supplementary health insurance plans. The utility also offers prescription drug coverage, tax deferred compensation programs, life insurance and participation in the South Carolina Retirement System.

CWS salaries and hourly pay are market-based and very competitive. Employees are offered college tuition reimbursement, training and professional development through Trident Technical College, the opportunity to earn a water or wastewater operator's license, and a Team Incentive Program that rewards the successful completion of special projects throughout the year. CWS also encourages its staff to join professional associations such as the American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation, Government Finance Officers Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, and many others.

“Beyond competitive salaries and a desirable benefit package, our employees enjoy an outstanding culture centered around taking care of our customers and each while doing very meaningful work,” said John Atkinson, director of human resources at CWS. “In addition, we’ve greatly expanded our wellness and employee activity offerings this year, helping us to maintain our outstanding employee retention rate.”
